travel north america united states oregon cape perpetua devil's churn
Devil's Churn is a rugged inlet of the Pacific Ocean below Cape Perpetua.
Aside from the Churn itself, there are well-maintained trails along the coastline and also under the highway and up to the Visitor's Center
and further on up to the top of Cape Perpetua and along the Cape Creek campground to the Giant Spruce.
The coastal trail from Devils Churn goes south over Cape Creek and on to Cook's Chasm and its Spouting Horn.
There are several view points and access to the beach along the way.
Be careful walking around the rocks at Devil's Churn... as a volunteer fire fighter,
I have had to help pull out several hapless tourists who fell into the rough water surrounded by sharp basaltic rocks.

Devil's Churn on a quiet day, Cape Perpetua, Yachats, Oregon, 2013.
As a Yachats Fire & Rescue volunteer, we have carried many people off the rocks along the coast.
One of our most difficult rescues was trying to pull two tourists out of Devil's Churn.
The first one was washed off the slippery rocks... the second went in after the first.
Unlike similar incidents along the coast, both of these men survived with cuts and bruises from the rocks
and hyperthermia from the cold waters.
